In the wake of the recent reformation Lord Manits, several previous members have joined forces to create a new outfit dubbed Missing. The new group is primarily comprised of Charlie Fell (ex-Lord Mantis, Abigail Williams), Ken Sorceron (ex-Lord Mantis, Abigail Williams, ex-Aborted) and Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, etc). The new group intend to bring in the likes of Jef Whitehead (Leviathan, etc), Sanford Parker (Corrections House, etc) and Fade Kainer (Theologian, etc) into the mix. No other details have been announced as of yet.
Wolvhammer will continue their North American decimation with a new string of West Coast tour dates in support of their third full length album, Clawing Into Black Sun. The band will provide direct support to San Francisco sludge duo Black Cobra. Those tour dates can be found after the break.
Holy hell. Talk about extreme meets extreme, Mortals will be teaming up with crusty blackened act Wolvhammer around Halloween and running through mid-November. This tour is sure to decimate all reality and if you are anywhere within the vicinity of at least one of these shows, I highly recommend checking it out. You’ve got crust and you’ve got filth, all packed into one space, so what’s not to be stoked about? Check out the dates after the jump! Continue reading
Blackened crust heathens Wolvhammer, who have gained a huge amount of respect from me over the years and now have one of the top spots in my list of favorite bands, will be releasing their phenomenally dark and aggressive new album Clawing Into Black Sun next week and to pump you all up, you can now stream the album in full!* Click on over after the jump and get your mind bent! Chicagoan purveyors of doom and gloom, Wolvhammer, have premiered a new track over at Noisey. The new track is the seven minute excursion into the darkest recesses of doom, “The Desanctification”, which will appear on the group’s forthcoming album Clawing Into Black Sun. Head over to Noisey to get pummeled by oppressive riffs.
Clawing Into Black Sun will be released on July 8th via Profound Lore.
This has been a good few days for music by bands that I love. The latest in this comes from the blackened crust entity Wolvhammer. These guys are holding one of the most coveted spots on my most anticipated albums list this year and based off the one song I’ve heard now, the bands new album definitely will not disappoint. The debut track from Clawing Into Black Sun is “Death Division” and it is an all-expansive beast of a track that harnesses every sound that Wolvhammer have ever experimented with. So, yeah. Basically, it rules. Check it out below courtesy of Decibel. Continue reading
I don’t know if any of you are as excited about the prospect of new Wolvhammer as I am, but if you’re not, you totally should be. This band is destruction incarnate. Pure blackened crust filth from a band that does absolutely no wrong. After the jump you can check out a teaser for the bands new album Clawing Into Black Sun as well as the bands last album. Check it. Continue reading
Fall is most definitely one of the most metal seasons, and you can tell by all the awesome tours that are being announced. Case in point: The Black Dahlia Murder has just announced their headlining fall tour for Into The Everblack with Skeleteonwitch, Fallujah, Noisem, and Wolvhammer. Here’s the deets:
We’ve been posting about bands who are planning split releases quite a bit over the last week. With Young And In The Way‘s forthcoming splits with Withdrawal and Moral Void and Twitching Tongues‘ upcoming split with Wisdom In Chains to two that I have learned about today. The first one I’m extremely excited for is the upcoming split 7″ between The Atlas Moth and Wolvhammer for Record Store Day 2013. Continue reading
Chrome Waves is a band that I posted about back in January that consists of members of Leviathan, The Atlas Moth, Wolvhammer and The Gates Of Slumber and they are amazing. With that kind of line-up, what else would you expect? The band released their debut, self-titled album on Gravedancer Records recently and now they have followed up with a new music video for their song “Light Behind A Shadow.” This track is mind-blowing and I cannot get enough of it. The video is very strange and very interesting, which is something that I would expect from a band like this. Check out the video below and leave a comment containing your thoughts. Enjoy.
Well, it’s that time again. Time for year-end lists. Last year I my list was kinda iffy around this time because I just started reviewing albums in September. This time around I have had an entire year to listen to, review and enjoy a shit-ton of records. God knows how many albums I’ve reviewed this year and I honestly don’t feel like counting them all. I know it’s a lot. On top of that, I’ve probably listened to and enjoyed twice as many albums as I reviewed, if not more. I managed to narrow my original list of 50 albums down to 22, that the best I could do. I absolutely love all of these albums and it was a privilege to listen to them and make friends with a lot of these bands.
Of course, as always there are albums that didn’t make my list because I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the albums. Some of those albums are new releases from Burzum, Raspberry Bulbs, Batillus, Full Of Hell, Entrails, Fuck The Facts and Ptahil as well as many, many more. Most of the albums that I didn’t get to include were not included because I didn’t get to give them a thorough listen. I regret this because I know a lot of these albums would be fucking amazing. I guess it’s time to get to the list, huh? This list includes signed as well as independent bands because I see no reason to exclude a band because they lack the support of a major label. A lot of these bands seem far superior to signed ones, so lets just see who ranked where, shall we? [Continue…]
Good morning. Listen to Wolvhammer’s The Obsidian Plains or you will die a slow and agonizing death. That is all.

I honestly have no idea why I haven’t posted about Welkin Dusk on here before. I’ve been listening to this band for a few months now and just realized that they’ve never been featured on American Aftermath. Shame on me. Well, the time is now. This is one of the most ferocious, dark and misanthropic bands I’ve gotten into this year and they fucking destroy. Without relying on a record label, this band takes the DIY route and releases all of their music themselves. They released a demo in late 2010 and followed it up with their debut full-length, Born Into A Dying World in June of this year.
I got into Welkin Dusk a few months ago when I was searching Bandcamp for potentially interesting blackened crust bands. You see, I love bands like Wolvhammer and Black Monolith, both of whom pulverize every piece of music they create by mixing misanthropic blackness to d-beat and crust punk. A lot of bands attempt this and don’t pull it off just right to keep my attention. This is not the case with Welkin Dusk. Although personally I feel the black metal takes a stronger stance than the crust in their music, it is still absolutely incredible and I cannot keep myself from listening to them over and over again. As you all should know by now, I love Wolvhammer. They fucking rip and I’ve been loving the tracks I’ve heard off of their new album The Obsidian Plains here and here) and now the good folks over at Cvlt Nation are streaming another one. This track is slow and gloomy and it sounds oh, so good. Don’t fret! Wolvhammer haven’t gone doom on us! This track also contains heaping helpings of their blackened crust sound. This album will be amazing, I can see the future and tell you this. I really wish Profound Lore would return my e-mails! I need a promo of this album! Hook me up. Anyway, head on over to Cvlt Nation and stream “Ghosts In The Water.” The Obsidian Plains will drop on October 25th. Get pumped!
