One of my favorite black metal bands, Barghest has unloaded a blistering, bleak new track titled “Application Of Malthusian Principle” and if you don’t listen to it right now, I don’t want to be your friend. Barghest are 100% one of the raddest bands in existence and, although I can find no plans for a new album, the band has new material and you need to listen. Check out “Application Of Malthusian Principle” below. Continue reading

BARGHEST Streaming New Track “Spent Brass”
One of the most amazing, mesmerizing and hypnotizing black metal acts of all time (which also happen to be one of my favorites) is Barghest. The band hasn’t released a full-length since their debut in 2011 and have only released a split with False since then. I was beyond excited yesterday when I learned that the Louisiana black metal beast will release a new record! The good folks at CVLT Nation (who gave us the Chest Painstream yesterday) have unleashed “Spent Brass,” a new track from Barghest. You don’t need me to tell you how amazing this track is, but I will any way. It destroys worlds. Check out the track after the jump. Continue reading
Best Of 2012: Gnarly’s Top 10 Split Releases Of 2012
It’s that time of year again: when we tell all of you folks what our favorite albums of 2012 were. Well, like last year I have compiled a few different lists and I wanted to start off with this one.
Who doesn’t love split albums? I mean, getting not one, but two bands on a single record is a thing of beauty. I listened a shit-ton of split albums this year and it was a pain in my ass narrowing down to only ten splits. This is what I have come to think of as the best split releases of 2012.
Review: BARGHEST / FALSE “Split”
I haven’t listened to a shit-ton of black metal this year that has absolutely blown me away aside from the new Deathspell Omega and the debut release from Hunter’s Ground. Last year was a fantastic year for black metal, but this year I have really been grasping at straws. I recently received the new split release from the USBM bands Barghest (hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and False (from Minneapolis, Minnesota) and upon first listen I completely lost it. This is the album I have been waiting for. [Continue…]
Ross Gnarly’s Top 22 Albums Of 2011
Well, it’s that time again. Time for year-end lists. Last year I my list was kinda iffy around this time because I just started reviewing albums in September. This time around I have had an entire year to listen to, review and enjoy a shit-ton of records. God knows how many albums I’ve reviewed this year and I honestly don’t feel like counting them all. I know it’s a lot. On top of that, I’ve probably listened to and enjoyed twice as many albums as I reviewed, if not more. I managed to narrow my original list of 50 albums down to 22, that the best I could do. I absolutely love all of these albums and it was a privilege to listen to them and make friends with a lot of these bands.
Of course, as always there are albums that didn’t make my list because I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the albums. Some of those albums are new releases from Burzum, Raspberry Bulbs, Batillus, Full Of Hell, Entrails, Fuck The Facts and Ptahil as well as many, many more. Most of the albums that I didn’t get to include were not included because I didn’t get to give them a thorough listen. I regret this because I know a lot of these albums would be fucking amazing. I guess it’s time to get to the list, huh? This list includes signed as well as independent bands because I see no reason to exclude a band because they lack the support of a major label. A lot of these bands seem far superior to signed ones, so lets just see who ranked where, shall we? [Continue…]
