When I want amazing, classic doom I go to the greats: Reverend Bizaare, Witchfinder General, Candlemass and over the last few years I have added Pilgrim to that list. This band does things musically that could often and easily be considered cheesy. The band has released two back-to-back phenomenal records, the latest of which was released last year and now the band has released a new music video. The video is for their 2014 track “The Paladin” and it was directed by Jon Schnepp who was the director for numerous episodes of Metalocalypse and The Venture Bros. Check out the video below. Los Angeles’ Silver Snakes have premiered a new track from their upcoming album, Saboteur, at Noisey. Titled “Red Wolf”, the new track barrels out of the gate with driving alternative rhythms that bleed into shimmering bridges and further into down-tuned mayhem. Vocalist Alex Estrada commented on the new tune:
“Red Wolf” was one of the last songs written for the album. We had this 8 minute long sludge track that I was having trouble with lyrically so I decided to rework all of the music while keeping the focus on the unconventional tuning. Lyrically it was inspired by the mysticism of protection spells; one in particular called the “7 knots untying” and how that would apply to political and environmental activists seeking to sabotage their enemies.“
Give it a listen after the break.
Saboteur will be released on February 5 via Pelagic Records.
