Hush., one of the raddest, sickest, filthiest bands to emerge in the last few years has won Lane heart as well as mine. These crushing sludge-slingers are prepping their new EP Nihil Unbound, which will see an early 2016 release. The band has teamed up with Toilet Ov Hell to stream a new track titled “Shinda Inu No Shashin.” Check out the track below. IT CRUSHES SO HARD. Continue reading

When I want amazing, classic doom I go to the greats: Reverend Bizaare, Witchfinder General, Candlemass and over the last few years I have added Pilgrim to that list. This band does things musically that could often and easily be considered cheesy. The band has released two back-to-back phenomenal records, the latest of which was released last year and now the band has released a new music video. The video is for their 2014 track “The Paladin” and it was directed by Jon Schnepp who was the director for numerous episodes of Metalocalypse and The Venture Bros. Check out the video below. Critical Paths is the 3rd release by Lafayette Lousiana’s Raedon Kong. The duo of Stephen Sheppert (guitars/synths/vocals) and David Leonard (drums/vocals) have followed up their debut album We Are The Worms and subsequent self titled EP with a mesmerizing and powerful record. I immediately hear influential echoes of the obtuse doom styles of Salt Lake City band Eagle Twin mixed with a kitchen sink approach not unlike Boston band Elder. Album opener “Macerator” is as memorable as it is jarring. With such a powerhouse opening track it’s quite apparent very early on in this record that the songwriting chops are first rate. The band excel at switching feels and approaches seemlessly throughout. “Golden Churches” in particular exhibits the bands absolute knack for concocting unusual yet wholly engaging arrangements.
LA-based doom act Yidhra will soon release their new album Cult Of Bathory and you can now hear a stunning new track from the album. This new song is titled “Reign Of Terror” and it is a galloping beast of massive proportions. Check out a stream of the track below. So good. Continue reading
After Forn released their 2014 offering entitled The Departure of Consciousness, they immediately became the reigning champions of all things slow and heavy in Boston as far as I was concerned. That’s no easy feat, considering the area’s history and penchant for churning out slabs of world-class stoner/doom/post-metal ala Isis and Old Man Gloom back in the day, alongside more recent additions like Morne and Rozamov and Elder. Swedish melodic doom outfit October Tide have released an in-studio, promotional video for their upcoming full-length. The currently untitled record, which follows 2013’s Tunnel Of No Light, is slated to be released in early 2016 via Agonia Records. The video features some studio footage and clips of new material, along with a statement from vocalist Alexander Högbom. He comments:
“This is undoubtedly the best and most emotionally charged material October Tide has created, in my opinion. I know how much hard work Fredrik has put into making this album and you can really feel the thought behind it all. I almost injured myself physically and was close to pass out a couple of times during the recording of the vocals. I gave it all to match the intense music and those powerful lyrics and I’m very happy with the result”.
On the new record deal with Agonia Records, guitarist Emil Alstermark added:
“During the first glance at this label you KNOW they are into metal. We have always had an good eye to Agonia Records and their great ways of spreading heavy sounds all over the world. As for the deal itself we are very pleased with the terms and conditions which are some serious shit. Agonia is a killer label and a perfect partner to October Tide“.
Check out the video after the break.

Los Angeles stoner doom outfit Yidhra have premiered the title track from their upcoming EP, Cult of Bathory, at Invisible Oranges. “Cult of Bathory” is a fuzz-laden, slow-burning jam that unleashes riff after bulky riff and is propelled by vocalist Ted Venemann’s gruff barks. Venemann issued the following comments regarding the new track:
“The most vile and inhumane acts are always perpetrated by humans. In nature, most seemingly atrocious acts can be explained by the base instinct to survive. That is definitely not the case with mankind. With our industrial capabilities and ‘advances’ in science and technology, we’ve grown quite efficient at destroying and profiting off of nature. Not even the most docile and innocent are immune to our perverse behaviors. The legend says the Countess Bathory bathed in the blood of virgins to maintain her youth. Millions of people are inadvertently doing the exact same thing every day. The truth is, no matter how hard we try to be ‘cruelty free,’ we’re not. At some point along the way there’s a product that you use, or there’s a component used in the manufacturing of that product that is covered in the blood of innocence. In that instance we are all guilty. We are all members in the Cult of Bathory.”
Check it out here.
Cult of Bathory will be released on December 11 via Black Voodoo Records.
New York doomsayers HUSH. will release their five-track follow-up to their 2014 full-length, Unexist, early next year. The new EP will bear the title Nihil Unbound (artwork above) and will be released on January 8, 2016, via the band’s official Bandcamp, with a vinyl release to follow spring 2016 through a collaborative effort between Dullest Records, Silent Pendulum Records and Fuzz Records. In contrast to its predecessor, these five songs feature a more stripped down, raw and claustrophobic atmosphere with lyrics based in philosophical nihilism to match. We at American Aftermath are proud to premiere one of these five earth shattering tracks, the leviathanic “Oror”. This eight-minute tune churns out hypnotically heavy, city leveling riffs in abundance. Frontman Charles Cure’s bellowing vocals, combined with guest vocalist Mers Sumida’s (Black Table) banshee shrieks only add to the song’s suffocating atmosphere. Stream the lengthy jam after the break.
Doom destroyers The Moth Gatherer will release their new record The Earth Is The Sky on Friday and the band has just released a lyric video for their track “Attacus Atlas,” which is a wonderful song. I’m really digging The Earth Is The Sky and I think all of you readers will enjoy it also. Check out “Attacus Atlas” below. Continue reading
One of the sneakiest albums of 2015, which only came to my attention within the last week, comes from Swedish doom act The Moth Gatherer. This band is extremely heavy and really fucking rad. They are currently streaming a new track titled “The Black Antlers.” This is definitely one of the sickest tracks on The Earth Is The Sky. Check it out below! Continue reading
Big|Brave are an interesting band that Lane showed me not too long ago. The band is currently supporting their newly release Au De La which is available via Southern Lord Recordings. In support of the album, the band has released a strange, yet enticing music video for their nearly twelve minute opus “Look At How The World Has Made A Change.” Check out the video below.
